Gary has a First Class BSc Hons in Pure Mathematics (The University of St. Andrews) and an MSc in Environment, Culture & Society (The University of Edinburgh). During his undergraduate degree he specialised in topics in the areas of Number Theory and Real Analysis.
He brings a deep theoretical understanding of the courses he teaches but aims to deliver them in a light-hearted and accessible manner with a strong focus on boosting students confidence.
He believes that Mathematics is a skill which can be improved with (just a little!) practise and his focus is on teaching the subject and trying to inspire students as well as preparing them for the exam. Many of Gary’s students have exceeded their expectations and gone on to study or use Maths to a higher level than they ever imagined they could!
Following a ten year career in the oil industry Gary now splits his time between teaching Maths and writing about the natural environment. His personal interests include hiking, yoga, and travel, and he is an keen reader of environmental philosophy.
