I believe that Mathematics is a skill which can be improved with (just a little!) practise. My focus is on teaching the subject and trying to inspire students as well as preparing them for their exams. Many of my students have exceeded their expectations and gone on to study or use Maths to a higher level than they ever imagined they could!
I bring a deep theoretical understanding of the courses I teach but aim to deliver them in a light-hearted and accessible manner with a strong focus on boosting students confidence. I have a First Class BSc Hons in Pure Mathematics (The University of St. Andrews) and an MSc in Environment, Culture & Society (The University of Edinburgh). During my undergraduate degree I specialised in topics in the areas of Number Theory and Real Analysis.
I am a member of the Tutor’s Association, the official body in the UK for tutoring and supplementary education. I share their goal of greater regulation of the private tuition sector and bringing together private and public education for the benefit of students.
Following a ten year career in the oil industry I now split my time between teaching Maths and writing about the natural environment. My personal interests include hiking, yoga, and travel, and I’m keen reader of environmental and cultural philosophy.
