Algebra Workshops

Algebra is the language of Mathematics. Just as writing an essay requires good spelling, grammar, and punctuation, writing Maths requires good algebra.

The National 5 and Higher Maths courses are very algebraic, so students need to be able to express their solutions using correct notation, symbols and processes. It’s not easy and students often fritter away marks from poor algebra. Every student can sharpen their algebra skills!

Having good algebra takes pressure off tests as the student doesn’t have to worry if they’re expressing their solution correctly – they can focus on the solution itself. Fluent algebra also saves time, giving students space to work on the more challenging questions.

National 5 Algebra Workshops will cover one or more of the following topics at the relevant point in the school year:

  • Factorising and working with brackets
  • Surds & Indices
  • Rearranging formulas
  • Algebraic fractions
  • Solving equations
  • Working with quadratic expressions
  • Algebraic Geometry (Straight lines, Quadratics, Trigonometry)

Higher Algebra Workshops will cover one or more of the following topics at the relevant point in the school year:

  • Indices for Higher
  • Rules for Logarithms
  • Proving Trigonometric Identities
  • Algebraic Geometry
  • Factorising Polynomial Expressions
  • Algebra for Differentiation
  • Algebra for Integration
  • Algebraic Geometry for Higher
  • The Algebra of Circles

Workshops will take place at the Inkwell, Elgin Youth Cafe and will last 2 hours.

Dates / Times / Costs will be posted here once confirmed but if a group of students wishes to create their own workshop I’ll try to accommodate it. Find out more about creating your own bespoke workshop.

Workshops will run subject to demand so please get in touch if interested or for more details.
